Live Shared Practice with Gabbie Cook, 11.30 – 12.30pm

‘When I started to work in circus, I noticed how acrobats and breakers often train together as a means of pushing their creativity and practicing improvisation.

For me, it provides a group training space where everyone is free to explore their style, learn from each other and take their time doing it.

I would like to apply this method to contemporary movement, and so I propose an improvisation based class to get ‘into the zone’ and quieten the inner critic.

In my classes, we would normally be sliding, rolling and falling from all corners of the studio, but for home training I suggest we focus this energy internally.

I’ll start with a focus on the breath and weight transfer, and then we’ll move onto tasks surrounding gravity, suspension, impulse and reaction.

All the tasks will be very open to interpretation and finding joy will be encouraged!’

When joining online workshops on Zoom:

  • Set up: prepare a place in your home where you can move, and where you can be seen.
  • You will need a clean, uncluttered space where you can lie on the floor. The class will be adapted for domestic spaces: living rooms and such spaces are fine!
  • We ask that you “mute” yourself at all times, unless you are asked to verbally participate.
  • Use the chat function to communicate with the class and/or teacher if you have any questions or concerns.

Participants will undertake the activity at their own risk and will be responsible for their own safety while taking part in these classes; Groundwork will not be responsible.

Live Physical Practice is donation based. If you have income at the moment donations are welcome but we do not expect payment from freelancers whose income has been disrupted by COVID 19.

If access issues due to e.g. a disability are a barrier to you being able to join Groundwork classes please contact groundworkprocardiff@gmail.com to discuss your requirements confidentially
