Dropping Stiches – Performance workshop
In partnership with Cardiff Dance Festival
In the playful and rigorous spirit of Karl’s work, Dropping Stitches will explore ideas about how performance gets made. What remains when ideas get left behind? What trace of the things we put aside gets incorporated into the work an audience experiences? Do dropped stitches add to the texture of a piece of choreography?
Karl is a choreographer, performer and presenter based at Findhorn in Scotland. He is creative director of Bodysurf Scotland, programming and directing its RISE! festival of contemporary dance and performance. karljaylewin.info
Karl Jay-Lewin’s work Extremely Bad Dancing to Extremely French Music is presented at Chapter on 14th Nov.
Extremely Bad Dancing to Extremely French Music is made-up of piano, dance and text solos, edited around strict rhythmic structures.
They span the overtly political, the understated and the oblique, ranging in temperament and emotion from the extremely calm and extremely harmonic, to the extremely loud and the extremely vulgar. There will definitely be extremely bad dancing to extremely French music.
Extremely Bad Dancing to Extremely French Music was created by choreographer Karl Jay-Lewin and the critically acclaimed composer Matteo Fargion. It is performed by Karl and pianist Tim Parkinson.
Join us for the workshop 13th Nov and then the show 14th Nov for the full experience.
