Choreographic Residency Opportunity: Monday 4th – Friday 8th March 2019

Groundwork at M.A.D.E. Cardiff

Deadline for application 11am, Monday 18th February

As part of our international women’s day celebrations, Groundwork, in partnership with Cardiff M.A.D.E, is offering a week long residency opportunity for Wales based choreographers, movers and makers who identify as female. You will have 5 days to work in the gallery leading up to a sharing event (this can take whatever form is useful to you and be as informal/formal as you like). The sharing will take place in the evening on Friday 8th March – International Women’s Day.

Groundwork and M.A.D.E are offering space and a facilitated sharing. This is an unpaid residency. If you will incur associated costs i.e travel/accommodation/childcare/access needs you will be eligible to apply for Groundwork Access Fund.

This is a unique opportunity to explore choreographic ideas in/for a gallery space without the pressure of a particular outcome. You can interpret ‘choreographic’ in this context in its broadest sense. Proposals could:

Explore an idea connected to female identity

Develop your practice as a female identifying artist

Put the female body at the centre of artistic enquiry

Expand the definitions of choreographic practice

2 spaces are available for the week, downstairs gallery (approx. 4m x 3m +2m x 5m), upstairs gallery (approx 6.7 x 3m). See floor plans below for details.

Artists will be able to have access 9am – 9pm Monday – Friday. The gallery is open to the public 10am – 6pm Tuesday – Friday.

We are open to possibilities of how the space might be used – i.e. one artist using both spaces, two artists using one space each with the possibility for dialogue and exchange, more artists using the space part-time. Please detail your needs/preferences in your application.

Groundwork/M.A.D.E. will:
Cover costs associated with the use of the space including provision of a bar at the sharing.

We will also support you by facilitating the sharing – one member of the team will visit you during your week to discuss how you would like to approach this.

Please email with your proposal.

Deadline 11am Monday 18th Feb
(we will inform applicants by Thursday 21st February)

In your proposal please answer the following application questions:

Company name (if applicable):

Contact (email and phone):

Tell us briefly about your practice (100 words):

Tell us what ideas, concept or approach you plan to explore for the residency (100 words):

Tell us how you/your practice might benefit from this opportunity (100 words):

Let us know your preference for using the space (i.e. individual occupation of both spaces for the whole week), flexibility to use either space part time across the week, or anything in between.

Do you need/want anything else to make your residency as fruitful as possible?
